How did you wire up the serial port? Did you short pins 2 and 3? Did you try using Hyperterminal to test your connection?

If Hyperterminal does't work either, then there's probably something wrong with the hardware (either the port or your wiring) and the version of LabVIEW is not relevant. Is this a built-in port or a USB->RS232 converter? If you have a different built-in or a different converter, try that. Or, try it on a different computer.

I'm confused. In your previous post you said Hyperterminal was not working. Now it is? What did you change? Your second statement is also confusing. You cannot use Hyperterminal and LabVIEW for the same port so what did you do for this Hyperterminal to LabVIEW test? A serial loopback test with Hyperterminal is described here. A simple LabVIEW test is attached.

These are details that are important to include. So, when you use a single port on the same pc, it doesn't work with either Hyperterminal or LabVIEW but if you use two separate pc's it works. If that is the case, then I would think that the whole problem is with the little serial loopback you have on the single pc. Make sure it is a real short by using an ohmeter and verify that it is really pins 2 and 3 and not pins 3 and 4. If you using something like a paper clip, make sure the connections are tight. I prefer to use a male plug and solder wires on the back.
