Jeff: The idea may be absurd to you, but it would have quite a lot of value for me. I suspect we probably like different foods too! :smileytongue:

The key point here is that LabVIEW relies quite heavily on knowing where files are, and if you close your project, rename some folders, and then reopen your project you are often met with a long list of confused callers.

Again, stop auto-populating.  the project will find the dependancies you moved in the folder you renamed, ignore the warning.

Jeff, why do you keep talking about auto-populating? No one is talking about that here!

We are just talking about renaming folders on disk that contain project files. Doing that from Files View seems like an appropriate place for it, as per ouadji's image...

@fabric:

unfortunately, my english is not good enough to be able to reply to all comments.
But your last post corresponds with my way of seeing things about that. Thank you fabric.

OK,

What other application lets you rename os folders?

Auto-pop folders are linked to the os folders.  Virtual folders are not.  Renaming a folder on disk that is auto-populating to a project will cause much pain resolving conflicts in the project.  Renaming floders and moving vis on disk to new or renamed folders in the same structure will cause project warnings that may be safely ignored.

This sounds like a great idea and would keep you from having to jump back and forth between the LabVIEW project and the folder location within Windows.

@ Jeff·Þ·Bohrer :

please ... a little common sense.
it would still be easier to simply be able to rename a folder
without creating unnecessary and annoying conflicts.

With such arguments, a version of labview greater than 6 would have never seen the light.  Smiley Wink

Status changed to: Completed

Available in LabVIEW NXG. You can edit the name of any file/folder in the project window (which corresponds directly to the file/folder on disk) and rename it. All linkages within the project will be updated when you perform this action.

+1. This idea would be a significant productivity booster. Can this idea's status be changed back to New so it can be kudoed?
