Provide a 64 bit Desktop Execution Trace Toolkit version

Status: New

I was told by a NI engineer to use DETT and, although it should have been clear that I was using LV 64 bit, I had to discover by myself that the version I downloaded was 32 bit only. The engineer recommended I installed LV 32 bit (to debug the performance of my 64 bit app, seriously?)...

Same for the VI Analyzer folks. Provide a 64 bit installer. I never was able to get it work in 64 bit despite the supposed workaround suggested by the developer.

Actually, here is the (boiler plate?) answer I got from NI regarding my question:

Currently we recommend using the 32-bit version of LabVIEW, unless you plan on developing applications that would need access to more memory than the 32-bit version can support. This recommendation is based on the fact that, as you have seen, some of modules/toolkits and drivers aren’t available in 64-bit versions.

The best answer that I can give you regarding the lack of 64-bit support for some modules and drivers is that it is a business decision by R&D driven by the allocation of resources. I did, however, find the following excerpt that sheds some light on the plan moving forward: “National Instruments plans to continue to monitor demand and prioritize this migration [to 64-bit] for other products in the future.” The remainder of the White Paper can be found at the following link:

Using National Instruments Products on 32-bit and 64-bit Windows
http://www.ni.com/white-paper/10339/en/#toc4

For your reference, LabVIEW 32-bit can access up to 4 GB of virtual memory without modification, while LabVIEW 64-bit can use up to 16 TB of virtual memory on a Windows 7 64-bit machine.
Additionally, if you are licensed for the 64-bit version of LabVIEW, then you will also be licensed for the 32-bit version of the software. Therefore, both are available to you. Please refer to the following articles for more information on this topic:

I know for a fact that the 4GB claim is bogus and this is the main problem and why some of us need to work with 64 bit.

I am not mentioning DLLs provided for 64 bit only, etc, etc...

As a side note, the NI engineer was very helpful with my original question. It just that unfortunately, in the process, the DETT was mentioned and it turned out to be useless in my situation.

We have a procedure posted for using VI Analyzer in 64-bit LabVIEW. It's not an officially supported procedure, so if you have issues, please post them on that thread instead of contacting NI support.
