It does not need to be said that the Internet is a dangerous place filled with pranksters, vandals and thieves. I once opened a vi from the forums that was set to run when opened. Although it was benign it kind of gave me the willies. Fortunately the NI forums are very high quality but my paranoia remains.
I propose something like File/Open Safely that would at a minimum override running a vi when it is opened. It could also warn of dangerous things that the vi could do such as modifying the registry, opening TCP connections to who knows where, reading or writing my files, starting or stopping services, etc. I don't know how this would work with password protected vis but if someone wants help on a vi and password protects it then they will be waiting a long time.
When I download an Android application my phone does these checks.
