Selector Label (Case Structure)

Status: New

When a Structure_Case is larger than a screen,

I scroll through the sub-diagrams with "CTRL+mouse wheel",

The problem is that  the selector label is no longer visible.

The selector label should always be in the middle of the visible part of the Case structure.

                                                                                         like this,

Kudos. This is not just relevant for "grossly oversized" case structures... After all, none of us have case structures bigger than the screen size, right? Smiley Wink

Rather, this would be useful any time the BD window has been made smaller (e.g. tiling side-by-side for comparison). In that situation it would be really cool to always be able to see the selector label.

Kudo BUT there is possible drawback which is that the selector will move along the edge as you move around your diagram. That could hide objects close to the top border of the structure (I am sometimes stuffing my diagrams and will typically place objects inside the structure so that they are not overlapped by the selector). I'd hate to pay that price, considering that I don't have that many case structures extending over more than one screen anymore.

@X :

a movable selector label with "click-drag" ... why not ? (like the case selector)

That would be better, yes, but if it is not auto-adjusting, you would lose the feature you are suggesting. I'd throw your request in the "Auto" mode options (auto-tool, auto-grow, auto-wire, etc) and leave the other users free to put their selector where they like.

I'm sort of ok with this idea, but the variant I think I like more is to simply let the selection ring stretch across the entire width of the structure. If you just let the selection ring autoslide along, you end up with it sometimes positioned under tunnels, and that means that the arrow buttons might sometimes be occluded. I try to make sure my tunnels dodge those buttons If the ring is always that long then I know I can put in tunnels without worrying that they'll sometimes be hit by the buttons when the ring resizes. Then, with the ring the full width, we can just move the text within the ring so that it stays on the screen.

Yes? No?

I am not sure I follow the logic of a full width selector... Where do your tunnels get displayed then?

While I admit that I often enjoy a little bit of "unobstructed top edge" to run some wires cleanly through, I think a full width selection ring would probably give an overall cleaner appearance.

It also solves the related issue of where to tuck my free labels... Do I try to squeeze them right up into the top-left nook, always in danger of running into the left edge of the selector ring? Much easier decision if the inner top edge is uniform...

I do not see this as a high priority item as it mostly applies to code I am cleaning up which was written by someone else.

If any change is made, I like AQ's suggestion of full width selector label.

I would much prefer having the available cases available in a right-click on the structure (or any tunnels!) than a full width selector.  In fact it should be on the right-click menu whenever I click ANYWHERE on or in the structure (in its own sub-menu so as to not overly clutter the menu).  Other than that I would MUCH prefer the wandering selector over the full width selector.
