3D picture control viewing problem (or feature!)

Hi,

I've been using 3D picture control for some time now, mainly with LabView 8.5.   When I'm upgrading to a newer version (8.6 or 2009), there seem to be a change with the viewing of the scene ("Setup window").  In fact, there seem to be a clip plane that hides everything that's not in the field of view (in between the near and far plane).

Since I want to mimic what an actual camera would see (in reality, that would be blurred objects when they're too near or too far; I don't need the blur, but I'd need the object to be there at least), I would have liked to disable this clip plane - is there any way to do this?

Thanks

Audrey

Hi Audrey,

is there anyway you can post your code and an example picture that shows what you are talking about.

thanks

Sure, sorry for the delay

Here's an example VI.  You can zoom in and out to see the actual behavior of the clip plane

PS Sorry I couldn't load a VRML file, *.wrl isn't a valid extension for this forum.  You can load any *wrl file in 97 format.

Hi Audrey,

I guess I am still not seeing/understanding what you are  talking about. I have attached two examples below, they both do the exact same thing (one in 8.5, and one in 2009). I attached the WRL file, but renamed the extension to .txt, you should be able to rename it back to .wrl and use it for these examples.

When I zoom in and our in these pictures controls the behavior looks the same in both version. Maybe screen shots of the past behavior and new behavior would help?

Thanks

I couldn't open your LabView8.5 example with LV8.5, it seems to have been saved in an more recent version of LabView (maybe 2009)

Here are some screen shots of both behaviors.  On the one with LV2009, you can see the view is being cliped if we zoom too close to the part.  To make sure you get the same behavior as I have with LV8.5 (which is without any clip plane), maybe you can test it on a PC that only has LV8.5?  I know there are some issues about having multiple LV versions on the same PC... one being that you might run with LV8.5, but it goes into a common library to get access to the 3D picture control library, and then you end testing the 2009's picture control library.

Thanks for your help,

Audrey

Hey Audrey,

I just suddenly understood what you were talking about, and have reproduced it. Let me discuss this behavior with a LabVIEW expert and see if it is "expected" for 2009, and if not, we will file and CAR, and either way see if this is something we can disable.

Hi Muks,

A CAR is not filed yet. I spoke with one of our LabVIEW experts and he was going to bring it to the attention of R&D and the other LabVIEW experts today (they only meet mon, wed, fri). Will keep yall posted.
