Can't launch DAQ assistant in LabVIEW

has anyone had the problem where they select the daq assistant and when they drop it down nothing happens. i mean instead of the wizard comming up, labview freezes and just makes a *ting* sound (vista) when u try to click around. this is whats getting me

What version of LabVIEW are you using? Is this a new installation?

I have seen weird things with DAQ assistant at  home on LV 8.6.1f1 and Vista64 Home Premium.  Sometimes not opening.  Or sometimes causing a crash of LV.  Almost like that NIassistant process remains running even after I close the assistant.  I'm at work so I can't replicate it right now, and I never bothered writing down the details.
