Change device number

I just had to switch from WinNT to Win2K on a PC, so am re-installing everything.  Installed LV6.0 and upgraded to 6.02.  Installed 488.2, and now my GPIB works OK - I can communicate to devices through MAX..  I also have a 6110E DAQ card, which is installed as device 1.  I need to switch it to device 4 for the application that I need to run,  but everytime I try it in MAX, MAX locks up.  Any click on MAX results in the windows "ding" sound.  Also, I can't open a test panel for it.  It shows up as OK in windows device manager.  Oddly device manager listed it as device 4, but MAX shows it as device 1.  I changed the device number in one of the sub-vis and communicated with the board OK as device 1.  Unfortunately this application was not written using a config file, so the device number is hardwired in MANY places.  Is there another way to change the device number?  Thanks in advance.

Hello Jim,

To rename a device you need to open MAX and right click on your device and select properties.  In the property window that appears you need to change the device number located under the system tab.  After doing this and pressing ok the device number should update as long as the new name does not conflict with another device (i.e. changing device 1 to device 3 when another card is already called device 3).  It sounds from your post that this was not working for you.  If so there might be a software problem.  You said that any click in MAX results in a windows ding.  Does this only happen with DAQ hardware or only does everything including GPIB?

If it is a software problem upgrading your version of DAQ.  Since you are running LV 6.0, you will want to install Traditional NI-DAQ 6.9.3 and you can find it here for windows 2000.  This is the last version of Traditional NI-DAQ that will work with LabVIEW 6.0.  If this does not help, can you please explain a little more about your experience with MAX, what works and what does not?  Are you able to run test panels on your DAQ device (right click and select test panels or select the device and press the test panels button)?
