That "Commix" software doesn't look like it's much help, it doesn't appear to be doing any of the encoding or decoding of Modbus packets for you. You could try another tool that does the Modbus work for you, something like Modbus Poll or Simply Modbus Master to try to confirm that your device's Modbus is working.
