Convert 8.2.1 to 7.1

I'd greatly appreciate it if someone were able to convert my VI from 8.2.1 to 7.1

8.2.1 is the only version of LV ever on this computer, so I think that is why I'm not able to do it on my own...only 8.0 is listed as a version I can save as a previous version.

Thanks in advance

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for contacting National Instruments.  I've been looking into your question about converting your VI to an older version and I have done everything that I can to convert it back to 7.1.  Usually, our versions of LabVIEW are only capable of saving for one version backwards, which is why you were only able to save your VI in 8.0.  However, with LabVIEW 8.5, we are able to save a couple of versions back, so you may want to look into that if this is going to be a recurring issue.  Also, please keep in mind that many features change with newer versions of LabVIEW and there are numerous tweaks in order to make our products better.  This being said, saving for previous versions of LabVIEW may not be fully compatibile as you intended, so you may have to make a few changes to your code if it does not operate as you expect.  I hope this helps you out and please feel free to reply back if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Hi Jonathan,

There's a way to do it with a reasonable chance of success, but you might not like the answer.  LabVIEW 8.2.1 can save backwards to LabVIEW 8.0, and LabVIEW 8.0 can save backwards to LabVIEW 7.1.  Depending on which functions you're using, successively saving it backwards accross versions usually works from my experience.  The problem is that you've got to have the applicable versions of LabVIEW installed or know someone that does.  Good luck!

The problem with this is that 8.0 was soon proceeded by 8.2. Also 8.0 wasn't
very good. So it took a while for someone to do the conversion, because most
people removed 8.0 as soon as 8.2 was released. I did that, although I'm
still using 7.1.

Wiebe.

Hi Noah,

you wrote "However, with LabVIEW 8.5, we are able to save a couple of versions back"...

Does this apply to all users of LV8.5 or just to NI App Engineers?

I've been reading this thread, as I'm having a problem saving for a previous version with 8.5.

I've tried saving my project and my top level VI as 8.2 and 8.0 but mid way through the process labview crashes... anyone got any ideas as to how to work round this?

Thanks in advance

Derek

Hi Derek,

you don't tell so much about your project, so I would suggest:
Save only parts of your project/main vi at a time to find out what part of your project is giving problems. Maybe some dll calls/CIN nodes/DAQmx?

GerdW

There is a few dll calls for third party interfaces, in amoungst about 300+ VIs, no CIn nodes and no DAQMX

Was hoping not to have to go through them one by one...oh well...
