Doubt about the LabVIEW device PXI 1033

Good Morning!

My name is Joshua, I'm Brazilian and I'd like you to ask me about the LabVIEW PXI 1033.

I am a technician in a company where my area is in the calibration part of measurement instrument, such as, the multimeter, pliers and ammeter etc.

For calibration, we use the Fluke Calibrator 5500A, the whole process is manual, it takes about 2 hours each equipment, so during the work day, we waste a lot of time calibrating the measurement equipment. And this is why we acquired LabVIEW, this product was purchased in 2008 and until today nobody stopped to understand the operation.

The reason for my contact with you is to know if with this LabVIEW model I can automate from the beginning of the calibration of each unit of measurement, be it also AC or DC, to the end generating the results of the calibration.

LabVIEW is software and PXI 1033 is hardware, both are made by National Instruments.

You seem to entangle the two terms. Do you have a hardware or a software problem?

To follow up from Altenbach:

• You purchased something in 2008 (the PXI?  LabVIEW? both?) and " until today nobody stopped to understand the operation".
  • Does that mean that the PXI 1033 has not yet been used?
  • Does that mean that you have LabVIEW 8.6, but have not installed it, or not used it?
• The PXI 1033 is just a chassis.  By itself, it does nothing.  What "cards" are plugged into it?  It would be helpful to know the NI "number" as well as a brief description of "what they do" (i.e. "Multifunction I/O" or "Digital I/O" or "Counter/Timer").
• This Chassis communicates using something called the MXI bus (which I've not used).  Do you have the appropriate PC-side connection and the appropriate cable?
• Can you provide more information on where you are with this, and what you need?
  • Are there some routines you've been using that now don't work, and you need help "fixing" them?  If so, explain and attach the VIs.
  • Are you "starting from the beginning" with no LabVIEW code and no LabVIEW experience?  Then you need to think if you want to hire a LabVIEW Developer or want to spend the time to learn LabVIEW and do your own development.  Let us know.

If you have a copy of LabVIEW, then there are drivers for the Fluke 5500A - http://sine.ni.com/apps/utf8/niid_web_display.download_page?p_id_guid=04706DBECEAD3C51E0440003BA7CCD...

You could use LabVIEW and the instrument driver to develop software to automate the calibration process.

I'm not sure where you see the PXI 1033 being used.  Perhaps you have controller (PC) you want to run LabVIEW on, and some PSUs or DMM you want to use for further testing?  A diagram or description of the test system you envision would help.
