GOOP intruduction

I would like to use the OOP capabilities in LabView. I have downloaded the GOOP wizard and looked around for information. Unfortunatelly I have not been able to find a good introduction, though I have read most of the documentation in the NI website on the subject. I have quite some experience programming LabView the usual way. However I have not been able to get a start using the Wizard: how do you create a class? where are the support feautures that are other wise quite hany in other LabView modules? Is there any step-by-step tutorial?

Hi,

The help is pretty limited in this original GOOP Wizard.

To create a class choose "Create New Class..." from the pop-up menu.
In the class generation process you have to edit the object reference. Give the enum the same name as the class and drop it into the Data Logfile Refnum control, save and close. Thereafter the Wizard will open the "ClassName Data Memebers.ctl". This type def defines what data can be stored in the class.

The Wizard will generate a Create and Destroy method to create new objects and destroy objects. To add a method just press the "Add Method..." button. I suggest you generate two methods, first select Reading in "Method Type", for the second method select Modifying for "Method Type". Look in the method diagrams to see how help methods are used to read and modify object data.

The Wizard you are using is the original GOOP Wizard, developed by NI and Endevo. There are newer and more powerful GOOP Wizards developed by Endevo. The latest version is GOOP Wizard 3, providing inheritance and virtual methods, icon editors etc. Please visit www.endevo.se if you like to read more. The drawback with the newer versions are that they are not free.

Something went terribly wrong with my first reply...:-)
The help is pretty limited in this original GOOP Wizard.

Then I suggest you generate two methods (press the Add Method... button), first select Reading as Method Type and secondly select Modifying as MethodType. Evaluate the diagrams of these generated methods to see how the help methods for reading and modifying object data works.
The Wizard you are using is the original GOOP Wizard, developed by NI and Endevo. There are also newer and more powerful versions of this Wizard. The latest is Wizard 3 which provides inheritance, virtual methods, icon editors, class renaming etc. The drawback with these are that they are not free. We also provide a UML tool for visual design, reverse engineering etc.
