This is not an uncommon problem. Sometimes it can be solved by exploring the options presented when the original installation disk is installed. At worst, you need msiblast.exe, see for example

According to the error message, you are again trying to install LabVIEW 7.0. Make sure you are using the correct 7.1 CD. I am guessing that installation of 7.1 should not depend on anything 7.0 related. I typically have at least three different version installed at any give time, and they don't step on each other's toes. 😉

National Instruments uses a global installer for all their products, so you won't find a LabVIEW entry in the add/remove programs control panel. (For simplicity, I assume you are using windows, and not Mac or Linux. Are you?)

Look for an entry called "National Instruments software" with the blue eagle Icon. Select it and press "Change/Remove". You'll get a windows that shows all installed NI products. Just select the desired NI product and action, the rest should fall into place.

See how far you get. 🙂

hai friend,
you have to remove so many files manually and also you should edit the registry of the OS,if this is not working,if you are useing labVIEW alone on the system, format it and reload the OS, many times i tried of installing Updated version but it doesnot work properly even after removing Labview, so please try to reload the OS if nothing is working.

I got such error after installing and whole deinstalling labview 5.0 . So now I try to install 7.1 version but it show error about evaluation of 7.0 . SO How can I clear registry as it has several items of labview 5.0—simply by deleting the strings with labview 5.0?

Version 5 ?!?!? And you are wanting to "upgrade" to version 7?

My recommendation is start over with a new computer. The boat anchor you're worrying about is what, the better part of 20 years old? And you're running NT for an OS?

What is going on here?

No I do not want to upgrade it. I just want to install as a new one. But it shows such error-- so I just need to clear my registry--but I do not want to do it in the whole. Just to clear the reminiscients of 5.0 version. When I installed the 7.1 version on another (not mine) computer it did not show such error—and this error discontinue the installation so I could not avoid it just remove. And this Labview I need for my B.S. work so I really need it.

There should be no problem installing LabVIEW 7.1 even with 5.0 installed so messing with the registry should not be the solution. It was probably that caused the problem on the first place. Since its an old computer, someone else has corrupted it. To install the student version, go to https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-30610
