How to connect front panel items as before?

In previous versions of LabVIEW it was possible to wire the connector pane to the front panel items more efficiently than in version 7.

You could click the terminal on the connector pane then click an item on the front panel then click another item on the front panel then back to the connector pane terminal etc.

In this version you must make a trip back to the connector pane first then to the second item on the front panel.

Is there any way to make this revert back to the previous operation method?

Not a major issue but it is a nuisance when connecting several terminals.

Turn off automatic tool selection. This "feature" can be a time saver but I also find that I can do things a lot faster by using the space bar or tab key to change tools like I did for years.

Thanks, I have tolerated the auto selection tool but find myself hitting the space and the tab constantly. I agree that it can be handy. Yet often it is like dragging fingernails across a chalkboard.

The analogy I use at work is that when purchasing a car, some people buy
an automatic transmission, some buy a standard. Some people are lost
without their choice, and some can switch effortlessly between them.
Luckily you bought a car (LV) with both. The switch for choosing is in
the Tools>>Options dialog, and if you have it set for auto, you can
shift-right click or use the palette to get to the manual ones
temporarily, then shift tab to get back to auto. Just a tab may work also.

Anyway, it is left up to the consumer to decid
e which they want to use.
Also, if you have suggestions about how to make the automatic less
clumsy, please suggest them on the web site.

Greg,
Point well taken.
As mentioned the auto selection is handy at times. I prefer to adapt my methods to include the new features as LV improves. Toggling features like the auto tools offers us the best of both worlds. Learning when to do it enhances the UI and enjoyment of developing with LV.

Anticipating which tool the user needs in every situation must have been a monumental task and a wonderful accomplishment. Enabling the tab to scroll though the next tools in line might improve the interface. The auto tool could start again after the next left mouse click.

Just to name a few, some of the best improvem
ents I have seen in LV over the years.
Undo
Event Structures
Convert tunnels to shift registers.

Improvements I would like to see.
Spell Check
Connect these two tunnels in every case for placing new wire through state machines
Drink and Ice dispenser.

Thanks for the tips.
