LabVIEW Documentation Survey

The LabVIEW documentation team has designed a survey to give us a better understanding of how users interact with the LabVIEW Help system. Customer feedback is very important to us! Please take a few moments to answer the survey questions linked below. Your answers will help us improve the quality of the LabVIEW documentation and will contribute to a better LabVIEW product.

Please note that your answers will be kept confidential and will only be used internally at National Instruments.

Click the following link to access the survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=421912598491

Thank you for your participation, Lynne Sypula, Kate Gunter, and Chris MacLeod LabVIEW Core Technical Writers

The direction taken in the survey seems to be very newbie oriented. I don't think you need a help system to understand what a subVI is or how to create it. That's what a tutorial is for. Eventually, you'll need to learn some programming to use LV for anything more complex than "analyze and display that using an express VI".

I would expect the help system to help users better understand the details of some of the system functions and maybe to point users in the right direction for some of the more advanced topic (like "how would I write a driver").

I don't think this survey will give a good response, like tst stated the questions are beginner oriented, as a more advanced programmer would have different problems (scenarios) with different questions.

I had no idea what I would ask to the help system in the scenarios described, because I wouldn't ask these questions.

I totally agree with tst and TonP...

Seems like the Help will go down a level... I mean will be drawn to help those who use express VI.

I also fully agree with the previous posts. I started the survey and exited after reading the first scenario.

It is the same "problem" as you can see here in the forums. People who try to write a program but don't have knowledge in this area. So they use express vis and if the first function needs to be implemented which is not available as express vi, the problem begins.

I don't want to keep these people away from LV, but NI should keep the focus on advanced programmers who know what they do. Of course the entry level could be low, but LV should not become a "toy".

Hmmmm "no programming skills required" said the sales rep ! Smiley Indifferent

The "problem" is that it is very easy  for a sales rep, visiting a potential new customer, to demonstrate the ease of use of LabVIEW and he's not really lying when he says that LabVIEW make many thing easier.

NI made such a big effort to make developpment easier that it's becoming a problem for advanced users Smiley Indifferent
