LabVIEW installer failure

Hi,

I'm having problems with the Labview installer. In fact, more generally all National Instruments products I've tried have the same problem.

I first noticed a problem trying to install an upgrade to the Lego Mindstorms NXT software (the dynamic block update) the update failed with an "unsupported operation exception". I didn't think much of this, but yesterday I tried to install LabVIEW 8.0 and hit a similar error. The installer initialises correctly and I can go through entering my serial number and selecting components. Pressing "Next", after a short delay, generates an Alert dialog titled "Status" with no content except a button. Clicking this button leaves an empty installer screen with only a Cancel button active. Clicking cancel generates the error message: "The instruction at "0x%08lx" referenced memory at "0x%08lx". The memory could not be "%s"."

I've tried removing all NI my sotware (NI-GPIB, NI-VISA, DAQmx, Measurement Studio, Lego NXT), hoping that that would fix the installer. It didn't and now I can't reinstall any NI software! I've tried NXT, Labview and DAQmx and each installer gives a similar error and exits.

I've tried re-installing the Windows installer FWIW, and also made sure all files from Program Files and Documents and Settings relating to NI have been deleted (as best I can tell). I even went through the registry and deleted all the NI keys I could find. None of it seems to have helped!

Any advice greatfully received. I can live without Lego (for a while :-)) but I'm really stuck without Measurement Studio!

Many thanks,

Jony

p.s. I've ran the LabVIEW installer with logging enabled. I don't see anything obvious in the log, and it's a bit large to attach, but I'd be happy to post it if it could be of use to anybody.

Hi Jony,

It does seem as if something has become corrupted on your computer. Have you tried a repairing Windows? (Boot from the windows CD and select the Repair option from the on screen menu). This might be the only option if you have already updated the windows installer and removed registry keys.

That's a good idea. If only my computer had actually came with a Windows CD and not a cheesy system restore disk! I'll see if I can track a disk down and let you know how it goes.

Many thanks,

Jony
