LabView 8.5 very slow compared to 7.1

A few of us in the office recently upgraded from LabView 7.1 to LabView 8.5.  All of us have noticed a dramatic lag on our PCs since the upgrade (both LabView and other programs hang more frequently, especialy when editing large VIs).  We all have Pentium4 >3.2GHz machines, some with 2 processors, and 2GB of RAM.  The CPU usage will go up to 50% for about 1s just to place a simple part in the block diagram (longer for more complicated operations).  This was not the case with 7.1.  Are there any options we can change that may have been defaulted differently with 7.1 or is this something we just have to live with?
Thanks,
Dave

Is the same still true after you have saved the VIs in the new version?

Did you upgrade to 8.5.1 yet?
(IF you are on SSP, I would recoomend doing so. A lof of bugs were fixed, see: http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/6927)

It is still true after the VIs are saved in the new version... We have seen this for a couple weeks now.

We do not have 8.5.1, I don't see where I can download this update.  We have a network license if that is what SSP is referring to.

When I go to "About LabView" it says Memory Allocated is 37908k, can this be modified?  My llb is very large (70M)

Nevermind about the allocated memory question... I can see that it changes as I open different VIs.

One thing that I did to cure the sluggish ness of 8.5 was to mass compile all of my VI's  for the project that I was working on. I have VI's that were developed in 7.0 and they ran slow and I seen the CPU usage jump up, but when I mass compiled them they were fine after that and I have not seen the sluggish ness since. Sounds like that is what you need to do.

I've never used mass compile before... Will I still have individual VIs that can be modified separately?
My current configuration is about 550 sub-VIs in 3 directories and 1 main VI.  I make this all into 1 llb to send to other people, but I do want to keep them all separate on my PC.
Is mass compile going to allow me to keep everything the same from this standpoint?

Everything will remain just as it is, simply upgraded to v8.5. You can feed it an entire folder and it will upgrade everything to 8.5. Find it in theTools --> Advanced menu

MAKE A BACKUP FIRST!

If these VI's will never have the need to be used in other versions then everything is good because basically what a mass compile does is open each vi and saves it in 8.5 or what ever version of LV that you use to mass compile. I would suggest making a backup somewhere just so that i would be able to go back and check that everything is working properly.

I finished the mass compile.  It did not seem to help.
What about the download for update 8.5.1.  I can not find it on the NI website.  Can you post a link?
It still takes 3s for the PC to process my moving a component in the block diagram from one loop to another.  Or 1-2s to place or delete a simple addition block.  This should not be acceptable, and I can't believe that no on else had notice a speed change like everyone in our group has found.

I doubt it will help, but I guess I will try optimizing the VI to make it smaller, but it will take days since each change has a delay.
Please let me know if there is anything else to try.

LV 8.5.1 is only available for companies with SSP support. Just because you have a network license does not mean you have support. you will need to contact NI about it. There are also many factors that can cause this slow down. Different virus scanners, some different software could be causing the problem, Who knows. I have seen many diferent things over the years that cause LV to slown down and do this. One software that i know for a fact that will do this is the Cisco Security Agent. Every time I upgrade LV I have to get IT involved so that they can come down and set up the security agent to be able to accept the new version. I would strongly suggest contacting NI about this.
