Labview 7.1 wanted

Struggling engineer looking for a copy of Labview 7.1 Prof. Development System. A legal one, that is!
I'm hoping that with the move to version 8 someone out there has a copy of 7.1 gathering dust on a shelf. I will pay hansomely!
Whether you can legally transfer the licence will depend on how or whether you upgraded it to version 8...

  • I will never need the additional functionality of v.8
  • I would like to be able to support projects I have worked on in v7.1. Those people are not going to upgrade their version.
  • If I have v7.1 I can write code that will port to v8.x. I can't do the reverse as far as I know.
  • Labview programming is only a small part of what I do, so it could take me years to recoup the cost of buying the latest version.
  • As a freelancer, the cost will come straight out of my pocket. I can think of better things to spend £2900 on!
  • I object to having to pay 42% more for a piece of software because I am in the UK!

Some of your points I cannot argue with.

Especially the 42% one Smiley Wink

You ve definitely got enough valid reasons to keep LV7.1 for backward compatibility.

Even companies think on the same lines... Smiley Wink

Hi!

Are you pointing out the currency change problem????

In Italy, we pay cFP-2120 1949 € , in USA you can buy it for 2099 $.  It's not the actual change, I suppose, even if this morning I didn't check.....  Smiley Wink

   I have to say that is a little step inward, because before,at NI, 1 € = 1 $ !

In my company, we have 7.1, 8.0, (and 8.20 maybe). LV 7.1 is in my computer, while LV 8 stays on the shelf.... "squadra che vince non si cambia!" (never change a winning team!)

I think too that backward compatibility, anyway, is a major issue.

No I took that into account. The 42% surcharge is real. It's probably less for EU countries. Try changing your country in NI's web site and see how the prices change.

After having a word with my local NI rep, I may have to get version 8 after all. For an upcoming project I want to use Math Interface Toolbox, which (surprise) is only available for version 8. Oh well, I didn't really need a holiday this year 😞

On the up side, If you buy version 8, you are allowed to install a previous version on the same machine.

Did you say you had version 8 on a shelf...?

I meant,
the currency change has a very different rate between NI prices and exchange markets... 1.4 $/£ for ni, 1.9 $/£ for the rest of the world....

Anyway, I'm planning to PORT my application to LV 8, but I think it will take some extra job, and I'm frightened about driver compatibility.....

...so I'm gonna use LV 8, sorry! Smiley Wink

   bye!
