Labview 8 and Bluetooth

Hi everybody,

I am trying (or rather, a colleague is) to get Labview to "see" a couple of
serial <-> Bluetooth adapters to remote control measuring equipment.
Finding the devices via Windows XP's "Bluetooth Neighborhood" works fine.

Setting up a VI with the "Bluetooth Discover" module also works fine, but
although I have set a time limit of 20s, the VI runs and ends almost
instantaneously, and never finds any devices, although there are two mobile
phones well within range. There is no wait period either. Running the VI in
a loop does not help. The documents available at NI.com all suggest that it
should "just work".

What am I missing? Does anybody have any idea?
I would appreciate any suggestions!

Hey Jens,
I noticed the exact same behavior you're describing when I didn't have my bluetooth dongle plugged into my usb port. Once I plugged it in, things worked great. Is the computer that you're running LabVIEW on set up for blooth communications?

Hello Jens

If I am correct then I think you have to discover the bluetooth devices .......OK....then first you have to make sure that ur system have a bluetooth adapter connecting to its USB port....if you have done this then just open a blank vi and place Discover vi and just connect the indiacators giving no. of devices connected and the the device list......you need not to enter any time out period.......just make sure  that discovery is on for ur Bluetooth device which u want to search and ur system has bluetooth adapter(dongle) or on board bluettoth adapter is working fine......it WILL work.

Rebecca-

The Bluetooth discover VI's are included with LabVIEW. You can find them under Data COmmunications>>Protocols>>Bluetooth

Hi Jens,

Sounds to me like LabVIEW is not seeing your BlueTooth device. My experience and information has shown that LabVIEW only works with bluetooth devices that work with Microsoft drivers. In case you didn't know, you cannot use the drivers that are supplied with the device. You'll need to determine if your device will work with Microsoft drivers. You can confirm this by contacting the vendor. If it does not, than you'll have to purchase a device that does.

Hope this is helpful!
