MAXServerUnknownError

Hi All,

This is my first post on here and am a relative Labview Newbie although I have been getting a great deal of help from one of the NI software engineers.

I have an issue with one of my 2 cRIO-9074 units.  Having completely reformatted the thing using LV2010 I have the following issue when I connect to it using MAX, I am able to pick up the IP address and the system state, but nothing else and I cannot edit any of the network settings.  All I get is an error box with the code mentioned in the subject.  I understand that this could be caused by the use of Silverlight (?) and some strange interaction problem.

I have tried the cRIO on two completely different computers, A desk top and a Laptop, running the same software, LV2010 both produce exactly the same results.

I have downloaded the Application Deployment tool from here, http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/5986, and have been able to change the IP Address and the System Name.  Success :manvery-happy:  I have attached a screen shot showing how far I have got so far.

However I now have a cRIO which is formatted, the only way I know how to install the software is through MAX, there is a chance I could get an image from the cRIO which seems to be working fine, but it is on a boat floating around Poole bay at the moment and I am not!  I would prefer a solution where I either create an image from scratch and then upload it using the Application Deployment tool, or fix MAX!

Thanks for any help you guys can offer!

Dominic

I would suggest first trying to upgrade to MAX 4.7.4 from the NI System Configuration 1.1.4 distribution, because it seems to resolve some of these issues.

Cheers Josh,

I have installed all the updates from that link, and I now have slightly more information about the cRIO.  I was also able to upload the cRIO software onto the cRIO. Now however my cRIO seems to be restarting itself every few seconds and MAX is not connecting to it at all.....

Hmmm

Hi Dominic,

Have you ensured all of your cRIO switches are set to off?

If it is still happening then try turning the safe mode switch on then resetting it.

Hi John,

Cheers for that I checked all the switches and they were off, I restarted in safe mode and I was able to connect again.  I was told by the technical support guys that one solution may be to reinstall LV2009 with all the patches and then upgrade to 2010.

I have done that and I am now able to reconnect with MAX, however the system monitor is still effectively unavailable and I am getting the same error code. However the cRIO is no longer resetting itself.

I Launched Labview 2009 adn tried to add the cRIO which is networked to my system through the TCP/IP port (I have checked all settings, initially I had the PC finding it's own network settings, I changed it to a specific IP 10.1.1.69, the cRIO is on 10.1.1.3, subnet set to 255.0.0.0 on the host PC.)  This was unsuccessfull, Labview did not find the cRIO.

Whilst I am writing this the cRIO has suddenly started re-booting itself again........

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Hi again,

You could change your subnet to 255.255.255.0 as the IP addresses of your computer and cRIO only differ by the last column.

It might be resetting everytime it loses its connection. Is there anything else on the network that could be interfering? Could you try it without your firewalls on, and possible reset it again with safe mode and IP reset switches on.

Hi John,

Right, Ihave changed the subnet of my PC to 255.255.255.0.  This didn't resolve the problem.

The network is a direct cross over cable connection from the back of my PC (it has two IP / TCP ports, I have checked that I am adjusting the correct port) I have checked the physical connections and they are good.  There is nothing else on the network which would interfere.

Windows firewall is currently turned off, and in any case when I first connected to the cRIO's I opened up the appropriate port through the firewall so I guess it should be ok.

I have turned it on with the IP reset and safemode switches on, I changed my PC to obtain IP address automatically since the IP reset has changed it back to 169.254.62.215.

It's no longer resetting itself, but is in safe mode, MAX is able to connect to it, but I still have the System monitor issues.  Having switched safe mode off the restarting problem seems to have been solved.

However I am still left with the fact that I cannot reset the IP address from within MAX.  Thanks for your help so far.

Hi Dominic/John,

Have you managed to resolve the problem? The same thing is happening when I attempt to connect to my PXI rack (Running whatever version of RT was installed on it from LV2009 a while ago) with LV2010 and MAX 4.7.0f4.

Steve.

Hi St3ve,

Unfortunately not 😞

Currently my workaround has involved installing NI Developer Suite 2010 DS2 without connecting to the NI Server to do any updates.  I have updated to cRIO 3.5.1 though, but am running on MAX v 4.7.

Having run two installs simultaneously, one on an XP laptop (No connection to the internet) and one on a Vista 64bit desktop (Updated through NI updater).  The Vista machine has issues connecting to the cRIO, the XP machine is working just fine at the moment, althought time will tell when I try and get my two cRIO's talking to each other.

I think I jumped the gun a bit! I followed these KB Instructions and checked out that all the services were running - which they were. I then rebooted and hey presto... we have MAX back Smiley Happy .

In Dominics first post he mentioned Silverlight. The machine I am on had a Silverlight update immediately prior to starting MAX and had not been rebooted as part of the update process.

Hope that this may help shed some light.

Regards,

Steve.
