Measurement and Automation Explorer error 0xBFFF800B

In MAX, when I expand the Devices and Interfaces -> NI-IMAQ Devices -> img0:NI-1424 and try to change the camera .icd file, the following error message pops up

"Error 0xBFFF800B
The session you requested failed to execute. Check that the user dll are on the system."

I tried repairing all National Instruments software on my machine but I still get the same error. Does anyone know what user dll this is refering to? I can use the same camera on other machines.

Hi mps,

I have run into this error before and the case was that the computer (an industrial PC as I remember) was not providing proper power to the board. I know you mentioned that the board worked well in another machine- is that still the case? I'm suspicious of this being a hardware issue...although we have now released IMAQ 3.1.1 which may not hurt to try as well (ftp://ftp.ni.com/support/imaq/pc/ni-imaq/3.1.1)

I'd be interested to see if the board is still functioning in the other machine as I am forseeing a possible power issue here. let me know how things work out!

Thanks for your help!

I think that the new 3.1.1 driver may be the problem -- let me explain.

First, I uninstalled all National Instrument software from the PC. I then removed the PCI-1428 frame grabber board, downloaded the latest NI-IMAQ driver that you sent a link to and installed it on the machine. When I ran MAX it gave me the same error that I posted in the original message.

On a whim, I uninstalled NI-IMAQ 3.1.1, removed the PCI-1428 card and installed NI-IMAQ 2.6. It worked. Using the old NI-IMAQ 2.6 driver I was able to snap and grab images.

I then reinstalled NI-IMAQ 3.1.1 over top of NI-IMAQ 2.6 to see if it would work, and as I predicted, I could not load my camera file, or any other camera file, using the new NI-IMAQ 3.1.1.

I'm running WINDOWS XP Professional, on a 3.2 GHz processor with hyper-threading. I am using a 300 watt continuous power supply with advanced power management.

Do you think the 3.1.1 driver is the problem?

Thanks

So is the problem occurring with the 1424 or 1428?

Whoops...that was a typo on my first post. The problem is with the PCI-1428.

I have a 1428 installed on my machine right now with IMAQ 3.1.1 and everything seems to be working well...which is why I'm doubting it's a driver problem. On the other hand I'm wondering if this is a problem with combination of driver and camera file. What type of camera are you using?

Interesting.

I am using a DuncanTech MS3100. RedLake now owns DuncanTech.

I've attached the .icd file that I am trying to load; it pops up the error message when I select this .icd file. It also pops up the error message when I select any other camera file.

Since the problem is occurring with any camera file, I'm now not thinking that this is the problem. Does the problem follow the driver version on other computers as well?

It looks like we fixed it.

I uninstalled NI-IMAQ again, and removed the 1428. I noticed that even after running the uninstaller that the NationalInstruments->IMAQ folder hierarcy was still intact; so I deleted both the IMAQ folder and the MAX folder.

I then reinstalled NI-IMAQ 3.1.1 and reinserted the 1428 -- it worked!

Thanks for you help and patience!
