Missing Codecs in AVI Compressor Comparison Example

If the VISION team has not even heard about this issue, that is disturbing. The note below and previous notes like it gave us all the impression that the issue was flagged, given a number and that R&D was actively working on it. If not, something is terribly wrong with the NI messaging/debugging/priority system. Mike Davis U of Missouri Re: Missing Codecs in AVI Compressor Comparison Example Options 06-28-2012 04:22 PM Hi JLHaworth, I checked the status of the CAR and it looks like R&D is still actively pursuing it. Unfortunately, I cannot say definitively when it will be incorporated. I am sorry that this issue still persists but know that R&D are working on a solution. ------------------------------ Bill E. | Applications Engineer | National Instruments

Yes, something has slipped through the cracks here.  Multiple times.

Thanks John,

NI UK have confirmed that there is no fix for this in the 2012 version (saves me installing it now) but the R&D in the US is currently working on this and it MAY make the next update towards early UK springtime (no idea when that is as we're still waiting for summer!), but they cannot make any commitment.

NI UK have added my lot to the pile of people awaiting a fix, although that probably won't make much difference. I'll try in November when we have our NI Days in London (it's only one day - we don't get a whole week like you guys!) to find one of the US chaps who has a connection with the R&D/development team in the States and try get it sorted.

It's just really disappointing that we have to wait for the next release...like others have said, this should be made available as a patch to replace the AVI VI's...oh well...that's always what happens when a company is run by accountants rather than engineers...Smiley Frustrated

Cheers,

Steven

Dear all NI applications engineers, including Mychal, Bill and Steven: To follow up your replies below, we're now entering the second year of waiting for a bug fix on the video codec issue for LV 64-bit. The response of NI to this issue has progressed from disappointing to troubling to ridiculous. Apparently filing a CAR with R&D (#304337) is a meaningless gesture. Since "upgrading" to 64-bit LV I now have spent ~$1,500 on extra hard drives required to store the 5x larger uncompressed AVI files that I record in my daily experiments. To add insult to injury, I just received my yearly "Usage Summary of your NI Software Services Membership Benefits‏", which informed me that " 1 service requests were created, valued at $150 USD per incident". Really? That is your estimate of the value to me? I should rather preferto be reimbursed for the extra hard drives. It seems as if we've hit a roadblock at this level and I would appreciate having the email address of a manager or someone at a higher level who can possibly get some action on this issue. Mike Davis, PhD University of Missouri Re: Missing Codecs in AVI Compressor Comparison Example Options 10-27-2011 04:05 PM Sorry we didn't get back to you sooner! A CAR has been filed with R&D (#304337) and it is being looked into by them. I'm sorry I don't have a definite timeline for you. The first service pack for LV2012 is expected around Jan/Feb if they follow their usual release cycle. Methinks this bug will remain un-fixed in that release too.

As josborne stated our Vision 2012 SP1 release should be Jan/Feb.  After researching this issue and the corrective action request associated with it,  I believe this bug should be fixed with the new release.

Hi all,

I would like to point out that we already released the Vision Development Module 2012 SP1 about a month ago.

Please use this link to download the latest version: http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/3678/lang/en

You will see every codec on your system (even if you use LabVIE 64bit) which is supported by the Microsoft Video Compression Manager: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd757702(v=vs.85).aspx

We also support codecs on real time targets.

Therefore I will go ahead an close the CAR 304337.

Thanks,

Elmar

PS: The application engineer is responsible to create a CAR= corrective action request.

But it's up to the R&D team to set the priority for each request.

That is great news.  I didn't relize that SP1 had been released already.  I had thought that service packs for the modules were released at the same time as the LV service pack.

Thanks so much!  Gonna download it now.
