NI 9205 data

Could somebody please suggest a tutorial on the data generated by a NI 9205 32 channel 16 bit analog input module.

 

Alternatively, please explain how this devices 16 bit resolution relates to the fixed point data that this unit seems to produce. It seems to me that the data must originate as a 16 bit binary number and then somehow get modified into the fixed point format but I cannot find where that transformation takes place. I realise that fixed point data consists of an integer part and a fraction part and that the interface between them is the radix point, see http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/pub/p/id/303.

 

Where are the two parts specified and is it correct to say that the NI 9502 produces fixed point data or can it remain as a simple 16 bit binary number?

Have you looked in the Example finder?  There are a few interesting looking projects.

It seems to me that the format of the data produced by the NI 9205 is set in the project explorer via the modules properties dialog box; it can be set to either Raw or Calibrated, the former giving I16 data and the latter Fixed Point Data with a word length of 26 bits and an integer length of 5 bits.

 

The remaining question that I have is how can the NI 9205, which is basically a 16 bit device, produce a fixed point output of 26 bits? Are the extra bits simply filled with zeros?
