NI MAX - cRIO-9081 and restart

Hello,

What security needs to be set such that a cRIO-9081 running RT (ETS PHarr Lap) requires a username and password before restarting through NI-MAX.

Thanks

Hi devin1234,

I have access to a Linux based cRIO target right now, and I can change the permissions on it by going through the Web Interface (type the IP address in Internet Explorer). From there I can go to Security Configuration >> Permissions >> Reboot, and change the users and groups that have this permission to admin only. I don't have a cRIO-90xx series with me currently, but it's possible that you could set those same permissions from these steps.

Lauren,

Thanks - I have done the recommended changes below. On my Linux based system (a cRIO-9068) it works exactly as one would think -- a user must login and authentic before the reboot/restart is allowed and removing the "Reboot" option prevents any but desired users from doing so.

On the cRIO-9081 - in NIMAX you click "Restart" it asks for confirmation and then restarts without any further authentication (and I have verefied I am logged out - so no user is logged in when doing this). The cRIO-9081 is running Phar Lap ETS and not the WES.

Thanks!

Hi devin1234,

I was working with a cRIO-9082 today that is also running Phar Lap ETS. In NI MAX, after selecting the cRIO there appears an option to "Protect Restarts" under the System Settings. There is a checkbox next to it that can be selected, and you can set the password by clicking "Set Permissions". This prevented a software restart from NI MAX without a password. I would recommend trying those steps on your target.

Lauren,

I have no such option that shows up in NI Max with the cRIO-9081. I have attempted this both in NI Max and through the web services. In web services the restart behaves now as one would expect - you have to login before you can issue the restart. In NI Max, I click restart, it asks for confirmation, when you click OK you restart.

Thanks for assistance

Hi devin1234,

Can you attach a screenshot of you system settings in NI MAX on the cRIO-9081?

Hi devin1234,

What version of NI MAX are you using? It appears to be an older version. I have been working in NI MAX 15.0.

At this point, I'm not sure if the difference in options is because of the hardware or the software. I don't have quick access to a cRIO-9081, so I cannot confirm that right now. You might have a faster reply and better luck with more people who regularly use the cRIO-9081 if you post on the Real-Time Measurement and Control forums instead of the LabVIEW forums. The LabVIEW forums are for people who have questions about programming in LabVIEW, whereas this is more specifically a hardware question.
