I recently installed a new PXI-8360 control module on my older PXI-1031 chassis. I used the software that was included to complete the activation for controlling my instruments through my laptop computer. However, when I try to use the instruments, they are not showing up under the MAX devices. The green lights on the module are illuminated indicating that it has power and it is linked to my laptop, but the software is not recognizing it. I'm not seeing it under my computer's device manager either. Does anyone have an idea of what the issue is? Thanks.

Hi JMJ09,
Which drivers have you installed onto your laptop? In order to recognise the PXI and its modules you will need an installation of the "PXI Platform Services" driver as well as installing the drivers for each of the different modules contained in your PXI. For the NI download page, click on this link.
Remember that the order of installation is important as well, so please install LabVIEW first, then any modules and toolkits, before the drivers; and don't plug in the PXI until then.

I'm getting the same error. I have a PXI 1042 and the PXI 8360 card is not showing up under MAX devices. The yellow link light is not illuminated, but the power light is. The green light on the host computer PCI card is also lit. I've installed the necessary software from the installation DVD, and all of the drivers installed without any problem. I've rebooted both systems a number of times, always turning the PXI 1042 device on first before the host PC. What am I missing?

The issue I was having was with an old driver from a pxi-8310 that was installed previously. When I upgraded to the 8360 it was not compatible with the old driver and wouldn't complete installation. Deleting the old 8310 driver fixed the problem. Hope this helps.

Same error, but I don't find the way to delete de NI PXI-8310 driver, it doesn't appear at National Instruments Software nor msiBlast.
The configuration I have is a PXI-1042 Chassis with a NI PXI 8360, MAX doesn't detect it.
The strange thing is that with a PXIe-1082 and a NI PXIe-8360, MAX succesfully detect it.
Running in Windows 7.
Any help will be deeply appreciated.

I'm using the PXI Platform Services 4.01.
It is the same computer, when connecting the PXIe-1082 everything works fine, but when I try to use the PXI-1042 MAX doesn't detect it.
Of course, I turn off computer, connect chassis, turn on chassis and then turn on computer, when changing between both chassis.

I had a similar problem also.
Have you tried installing the mxi-express-bios-compatibility-software? See link below.

This helped to solve my problem.

I'm having a similar problem where I recently purchased a PCI-8361 with a PXI-PCI8360 and installed it into a PXI-1036 chassis that was purchased in 2010. I can't get NI MAX to recognize the 8360 -- instead it only permits the chassis to identify with an 8170 or 8150. I've tried installing both PXI Platform Services 4.0.1 and 3.0.4 (after removing 4.0.1) in order to see if it would work with an older chassis version. I've also tried MXI-Express BIOS Compatibility Software 1.5 & 1.4 (because that's the earliest version that is now available.) I was reading that the BIOS Compatibility Software has compatibility with some 817X cards, so I tried identifying the cards as a 8170, which allows me to recognize the cards, but not operate the PXI-5122 Digitizer card in the 1036 chassis that I'm trying to use. Please provide some guidance if you think you know the solution to this problem.
