Newbie 's hardware question, post again!

I new on hardware.
I already have a data acquisition board installed (built-in) and there is the corresponding program to control it(that's done by others.
Now I need to install another board to the computer, and make the necessary Vi to control the new board. I'm wondering what should be the procedure like? HOW to get the computer recogonize the new board. Should there be any driving program or DDL coming along with the hardware. Or the operation system should get to know the existing of the new hardware once it's installed( i mean plug in), how to name (number) the new board,(my old board is number 1),

or what I need to do is to plug in the new board and make the vi to run the data acquisition procedure?
Thank you for your kind reply!

Hello,

You can use the NI Measurement and Automation Explorer to check you board's functionality, renumber it and test it. If everything's ok there, then you can start making the vi's to work with it in LabVIEW.

Hope this helps,
Paulo

Forgot to say that we have only Version 5 on teh laptop which we use for testing.
is NI Measurement and Automation Explorer available for LABVIEW 5?

What is the board?

If you simply installed the board, you probably need to install it's drivers.
MAX (Measurement & Automation Explorer) may not be able to identify the board until it is configured by the installation drivers. You should have received a CD or disquettes with the board. Otherwise, visit the board manufacturer website for the drivers. At the same time, check for any LabView drivers (and examples 😄 ) that they may have.

Many manufacturer's offer "Get Started" types of vi along with the LV drivers to get the automation going faster.

Also, if you let us know what the board is, we can provide more assistance.

Have fun during the weekend..

In that case, check their website and make sure they have drivers (and maybe examples) for their board.

Also, make sure that the drivers are reasonably easy to follow..

If the card is from NI, then your worries are over 😉

cheers.
