Reducing size of installers

I have created a small LabVIEW 8.5 application (a built EXE) that uses the NI-VISA.  Now I am building an installer for it.  Of course, I need to include the installers for the LV run-time engine and the NI-VISA run-time.

 

I have managed to do this.  It works great.  The problem is that LabVIEW takes my simple little 1.8 MB app and turns it into a huge 70 MB installer!  Seems like overkill. 

 

Is there a way to create a smaller installer that only installs required components.  For example, I really don't need the Lookout Citadel Server and the National Instruments Time Synchronization service (seem to be bundled with the LV RTE).  Do I need to force my customers to install all this extra stuff?

This question comes up a lot. Basically, you pretty much have to live with it, unless you (obviously) don't include the installer for the LabVIEW Runtime and NI-VISA. Here's an explanation from a few years back:
