Remote Panel Plugin on Puppy Linux

I'm trying to set up a system where I can access my remote panel from a Linux machine.  The host is a Windows 7 machine running LabVIEW 2014, and the client is Linux: "Precise Puppy" to be exact.  I can view the remote panel from another Windows machine, but it won't load on the Linux machine.

I followed the instructions to install the Linux runtime engine and sure enough the plugin shows up in Firefox and also Seamonkey, but it fails to actually load the remote panel.  The web page opens and says something generic like "LabVIEW 14.0 runtime failed to load."  This is not the grey "missing plugin" screen; this is a white screen with the error printed at the center.

Puppy Linux is a lightweight distribution, so I'm thinking that maybe I have a missing dependency or something, but I don't know what that might be.  I'm not sure how to debug from here.

Does anyone have any tips on how to get this runtime plugin working on Linux?

Hi Votton,

This might be occurring because of a compatibility issue or because the plug-in is in the wrong directory.

Here is a document that explains why you might be getting the missing plugin error when loading a remote front panel: https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA00Z0000019M9WSAU&l=en-US

Shalini,

I did follow the instructions on that link, and it did cause the plugin to appear in my web browser as expected, but the front panel still didn't actually show up.

I did some additional testing as well on another Windows 7 machine with the Firefox browser.  I wasn't able to get the plugin (2014 or 2015) to show up or work at all under Firefox (I tired versions 42 and 38).

To date, the only combination of OS and Browser that i've actually seen work is Windows and Internet Explorer.

I've read a lot of similar stories... It seems like this remote panel feature just isn't very well supported.  It's too bad because it would be an elegant solution.  Sounds like I should find another way to do all this.

Are you still getting the "LabVIEW 14.0 runtime failed to load" error?

Here is a document that lists the different Linux Distributions that are supported by NI: http://www.ni.com/product-documentation/52786/en/
Unfortunately, Puppy Linux isn't on there so we can't guarantee how our software will function with that Distribution.

Regarding the Windows 7 computer not working with Firefox, the article I linked before suggests it should work so the issue might result from incorrect Web Server configuration or compatibility issues with bitness.
