Stopping my VI!!

I've made a c*ck up!

Basically I have made my VI so that it runs when it opens..

all good but i have mistakenly placed it in a while loop with no delay timer, therefore the code runs over and over again and there is no way to stop it.

The abort button on the icon bar doesn't work, and neither does the stop button for the 'while loop', whilst it is running i cannot enter the block diagram either.

Is there anyway that i can stop the program from executing so that i can get to the block diagram and place in a delay?

Cheers Wes

Hey Wes,

We have all done this a few times, and there is a simple way around it.  Open a new VI and place your bad VI on the diagram.  You can then doubel click the "subVI" open edit it as you want.

You can also use the keyboard short cut ctrl-. to abort VIs, however that assumes you have the abort button on the menu bar.

If that didn't work let us know and attach the VI.

How were you able to creat a vi that runs when it opens?

This is an option in the Execution Tab of VI property (File>>VI property)

You could just create a new projekt and attach the vi into the list. After that you can open it out of the project then it doesn't start by itself. After this you should be able to edit it 🙂

Thanks All,

I have tried going into vi properties and changing it to run when open, but nothing happen.  It is the top level program I am trying get to run when open.

I know I can make it into an application and that would do it.  However, I will like to be in place between the application and a working program just in case I need to do more editing.

Hi lagahoo,

it´s also possible if you load the first vi. Are you sure you see that your vi run, maybe it´s to fast? Can you upload your vi, someone could change the settings and test it for you?

Mike
