Tool kit for Acoustics

Hi,
I have been working with Labview for some time and I have succesfully obtained my objectives.
There is another project that I would like to work with, which involves Sound and Vibration (acoustics). I have Labview 8.2.1 installed in my computer. If I want to record the vibration data of a machine, do I have to purchase a "Sound and Vibration" toolkit, or its possible without that. I would like to measure the sound and vibration off a CNC machine in real time; is it possible to do so?
I would appreciate if you could just send me a simple example or a snap shot of what I am trying to achieve.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Dhawal,

You can test drive the Sound and Vibration toolkit here: http://www.ni.com/trysv/

This website has a link to an online evaluation where you can remote desktop into a computer that has Sound and VIbration for about 3-hours.

To answer your specific questions I will need more details:

What is a CNC machine?
What kind of signals are you trying to acquire?
What measurement devices are you using?

Thanks!

Hi Abhinav,
Thanks for the reply. I also apologize for not being very clear on what i would like to achieve. I am trying to get some vibration signals through a CNC milling machine (at certain RPM, IPM and Force). I want to save those signals for analysis. I would be collecting signals at the rate of 200,000 samples per second. I have recently purchased cDAQ 9172 with NI9215 and NI9263 modulesfor some other project. I would appreciate if you could help me figure out which other module should I purchase to measure vibration off 4 analog signals (as for now). Also I would want to know if I would have to purchase "Vibration and Sound" toolkit.
I have still to figure out about the sensors that I should use for this, so if you have any idea regarding the same, it would be helpful.

Thanks once gain for your help.

Dhawal,

It is hard to recommend an acquisition system until you know exactly what kind of sensor you are using.

One place to look for sensors is PCB: http://www.pcb.com/

Most of their sensors work with our DSA products: http://sine.ni.com/nifn/cds/view/main/p/sn/n25:11/lang/en/nid/1036/ap/daq

These boards give you the ability to take very accurate measurements (24 bit) at very high dynamic range. The Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite includes various functions that you can use to make sound and vibration measurements but this all depends on what kind of measurement you need to perform - what kind of information are you looking to get from your vibration data?
