USB2000+ driver problem

Hello All,

I am having trouble getting my USB2000+ mini spectrometer working in Labview 2009 on an XP machine. I have NI-VISA 5.3 installed.

The procedure to follow is to install the .INF file, and then I am supposed to see the instrument in MAX. See the ReadMe file in the attached zip folder that contains the 2009 version of the drivers, which I downloaded from NI.

This procedure didn't work.

I went to the device manager > update driver > No, not this time > install from specific location > and select the file that was coped into the systemroot, but this also did not work, it says the file doesn't contain information about my hardware.

I have tried everything I know, and read all the threads related to this.

Please help.

Before you can ever hope to get the device to appear under MAX, you need to resolve the Windows Device Manager issue.  Since the driver being installed by you from disk does not work, you definately have the wrong driver.  Start by finding the correct driver for your device.

If you connected the device BEFORE installing the Ocean software and drivers, then you need to eradicate the unknown device, and proceed with the software installation first.  If you don't have the installer disk, chances are you won't be able to get the device going until you obtain a copy.

The drivers are located in C:\Program Files\Ocean\SystemFiles, and the one you are looking for is OOI_USB2000Plus.inf

If you are running this on windows 7, you will need to ignore the Unsigned Driver warning, and install it anyway.

Once you get to this point, you will need to download and install the OmniDriver developer kit for you OS.  You can get that at http://www.oceanoptics.com/technical/softwaredownloads.asp

Since I don't own a USB2000+, I cannot help you much beyond this point, but most likely, you will need to follow the isntall of OmniDriver, and open one of the sample VIs, if any are included.

Hi MoviJOHN,

Thanks for replying.

I will provide more detail for you in case you have more ideas.

We have Spectrasuite (Ocean Optics software) installed on a Win7 machine, and XP machine. When Spectrasuite is installed, it installs the device drivers for all Ocean Optics instruments. These device drivers work with Spectrasuite. I have confirmed that the instruments runs fine using this program.

However, I want to use Labview to work the instrument. So, if you go find the labview drivers on the NI website and download them and read the Readme file, you find that to make this instrument work in Labview you must install a different device driver, which is installed from the project folder of the labview drivers supplied by NI. There is a folder called "VISA_USB", in which are .INF files for all the instruments. There is one .INF file for win2000/XP machines and one for vista/win7 machines.

The procedure is to copy the relevent .INF file into %systemroot%\inf, which is C:\WINDOWS, and reboot. After this I am supposed to see the device in MAX. I found this procedure was successful for windows 7 but I have not had any success with XP.

The Readme file suggests using the device manager to update the driver and try to manually select the file, but for me it says "There is no information about your hardware in this file".

I hope this clarifies things.

Matt

Hi again,

Here I've attached the text from the Readme.html file that explains in detail the procedure I've mentioned above.

I have followed this procedure to the letter, and tried everything else I can think of with no luck.

For now, just put aside getting it to show up in MAX.

Tell me if it shows up in Windows Device Manager.

The problem has been resolved, and it's a little embarrassing.

I was using the HR2000+ driver not the USB2000+ driver.

Thanks for your attention anyway, sorry it was such an anticlimax.

Hello,

I have some problems with US2000+

NiMax recognises the spectro. All the Labview Vis are ok  but OceanOptics software (OceanView) doesn't work.

It doesn't find spectro "No devices found".

Devices manager doesn't see USB port.

Thanks in advance for your help.

It's not supposed to work when you replace the driver with the LabVIEW one that makes it appear in MAX.
