Using directshow without vision installed.

Solved!
Go to solution

Hi,

I am using Labview 8.5.1 full version. I don't have the vision assistant installed and I am not planning to buy it since it is for a small one time task.

Is there a general directshow dll I can use without having to install the ni_imaq_usb_installer_86.exe that requires NI vision?

Is there a way to find what would be the inputs and outputs of such a dll without documentation? (what I got when installing the SDK of the frame grabber are the attached dll ( the attached TXT file should actually be DLL)).

What I actually need is to acquire a snapshot from a USB frame grabber.

Thanks

Just to cover our bases, you are aware of the DirectShow MSDN entry?

Hello,

As of Vision Acquisition Software 2009 and beyond, you would not need to have the Vision Development Module as well in order to acquire from a USB camera. A license for Vision Acquisition Software does need to be purchased (the IMAQdx driver specifically), but I imagine it would be well worth the expense if you are looking at spending the time required to program and troubleshoot that yourself. Hi Zach,

thanks for the response.

Of what I get from your answer buying the Vision Acquisition for $460 is all I will need to purchase? Then I can install the USB driver?

Thanks

Hello,

Yes, a license for Vision Acquisition Software will allow you to acquire from DirectShow compatible USB cameras through the IMAQdx driver. Note that this is not the IMAQ for USB driver that requires Vision Development Module. As outlined in the document I linked, the IMAQdx driver is an officially supported driver that allows you to acquire from a USB camera without needing anything additional.
