VI Logger error: Database does not exist in the specified path

Hi,

I am using VI Logger Lite 2.0 with MAX 3.1.1.  I have been using this for a couple months with my NI DAQPad-6015 for simple data logging, which I then have been exporting to a text file for analysis with seperate programs.

The program has always hanged sporadically, so recently, I tryed reinstalling it to see if that would fix the problem.  However, after I reinstalled, I encountered a new problem.  When I create a task and try to run it, I get a popup window with an error message: "Database does not exist in the specified path."  After getting this, I have tried several times completely uninstalling all NI software, and deleting the Program Files/National Instruments, and then trying to do a clean uninstall.  However, I continue to get this error.  It is beyond my understanding how I could still be getting this error, since it previously worked ok (beyond the occasional hang), and I have deleted all the configuration files so that nothing should persist between the installations.

I am at a complete loss on how to fix this; if anyone can offer any advice, please do!

Thanks,
Jared Stephen

Jared,

It sounds like VI Logger somehow lost its association with its database. Please open MAX and check out the "Historical Data"->"Citadel 5 Universe" entry. Under "My Computer" in the right-hand pane, you should have a database called "VI Logger Data". It must be spelled, spaced, and capitalized the exact same way. If you do not have this database (which I suspect you do not), right click on "My Computer" and select "Create/Attach Database..." The default database path (if you want to have access to your old data) is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\National Instruments\VI Logger, with the database name as "VI Logger Data". If you want to create a new database, then specify a new path.

If "VI Logger Data" does appear, a possible fix is to detach and reattach it. Right click on "VI Logger Data," select "Detach/Delete...," and chose the "Detach" option. Finally, reattach the database as described above.

Hope this helps,

Ryan,

Under the Citadel 5 Universe entry, the entry "VI Logger Data" was, for some reason, misspelled. I fixed it, and it worked fine after that. Thanks again.

Richard,

The location of the Historical Data with DAQmx 8.0 and MAX 4.0. The new location is located (in MAX) under Tools->VI Logger->Manage Database. In this view, you should see "Universe," then below it "My Computer" and "Network." There should be a database called "VI Logger Data" under "My Computer." If there is not, please right-click on "My Computer" and select "Create/Attach Database." Then, follow the steps outlined above.

If "VI Logger Data" exists, it may help to detach then reattach it. This can be done by right clicking on "VI Logger Data" and selecting "Detach/Delete." After detaching, again, follow the steps above. Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Hope this helps,

Hi, Thanks for the help.

The location of the Historical Data with DAQmx 8.0 and MAX 4.0. The new location is located (in MAX) under Tools->VI Logger-> "Im unable to find this position >Manage Database" the "Advanced Setting" is grayed out also?

I have found infomation that VI Logger does not work with Labview 6.1, ref ni doc:"Does VI Logger 1.0 Work with LabVIEW 6.1". I dont have VI Logger 1.0 or the update.  Could installing this VI Logger without this info Version 1 and or update effect VI Logger program.

Thanks again for any help.

Hi Richard-

The upgrade for VI Logger 1.0.1 is available here.  In order to use VI Logger with your version of LabVIEW you will need to install this upgrade.

Hopefully this helps-

Hi,

We are also experiencing this problem. We have reinstalled twice and deleted all references to the software. We have executed the instructions you provided and we can see the "VI Logger Data" database under "My Computer", and retrieve its properties, but we still get the same popup error, i.e.

"Database does not exist in specified path"

We can even navigate to the specified path and view the relative files. So we think this error is a "red herring". Could it be something to do with validating channels ? I'm sorry, but we are at a complete loss. Could you let us know ALL circumstances in the underlying code which could produce this error and that might help us isolate it.

Many thanks in advance for your prompt attention as this is quite urgentfor us.

Cheers.
