VISA driver question

Hi all,

I have not been programming for many years and everything now is very different so I need your help please.

I just developed some software for the customer, installed Run time engine, tried to run application and it seems to me it does not communicate with the device. So I figured VISA is not part of the Run time engine and not working because of this. Old good times there was a VISA run time but it looks like it is gone now. So my question is do I have to install that huge 1.2Gb visa driver on the customer computer to make things working? Is this the problem I am dealing with?

Thanks,

Alex.

Re: VISA driver question

When you build the installer (after you build the application) you can select something like "include required runtime components" which should include everything you need.

What version of LabVIEW Runtime are you using?

Thank you for quick response, Gregory. I forgot to mention that I am running old Labview 8.0 and unfortunately  it does not have such an option

But am I on the right path? Do VISA drivers have to be installed separately? And BTW I installed the latest version of Run time engine, which is 21.1.

Thanks.

Thank you. My problem is that I do not have "Additional installers" heading in the Category toolbar.

Re: VISA driver question

Hi Alex, in that case, yes I think you're on the right track. I would install the full "device drivers" installation that came with your version of LabVIEW. That should provide runtime support for everything.

Re: VISA driver question

Thanks. However there are two problems:

1. I was asking about the user's installation. My development environment is fine, I downloaded everything from the NI site.
2. I cannot install drivers from original CD since it is incompatible with Windows 10.
So I'll try to install VISA drivers on customer's machine and hope that will work.

I'll let you know.

Thanks again. I appreciate your help.

Hi Alex,

Anything earlier than LV 2015 SP1 is not guaranteed compatibility with Windows 10. Can you update your LV code to something more recent?
