Very special issue with cRIO

Hello,

I have a weird problem with a CompactRIO Controller and a C-Modul.

NI cRIO-9074 (Reconfigurable Embedded Chassis with Integrated Intelligent Real-Time Controller for CompactRIO)

Directly connected to a Laptop with a CAT5-crossover-cable; both Controller and Laptop with static IP

NI 9403 (32 Channel, TTL Digital Input/Output Module)

 I have installed the following software:

         LabVIEW 2013 Development System

         Real-Time Module 2013

         FPGA Module 2013

         NI-RIO 13.0 (device-driver)

The cRIO shows up in MAX and can be added to a LabVIEW-Project, but the C-Module cannot be found.

When trying to add the –Module manually LabVIEW brings an error-message:

“An error has occurred. Visit the Request Support page at ni.com/ ask to learn more about resolving this problem.”

I reformatted the cRIO and reinstalled the software. And I set the MAX-data-base back to bond.

The C-Module can still not be found.

My next step was to install the software above on another Laptop and connect with the cRIO.

Same Problem: I can connect with the cRIO but not with the C-Modul.

Maybe someone can help me solving this issue.

I think we had a similar problem 9 months ago with a customer unit and a CDAQ chassis. I belive it involved:

complete uninstall / reinstall of MAX on the host PC,

update of drivers in MAX on host PC

update of controller drivers on CDAQ chassis - very compicated as we could not talk to the chassis correctly.

eventual return of CDAQ as it was not programmable and it turned out to be one of a small number of units that came thorough a bad manufacturing patch from NI.

(took 1 week to work out what was going on with NI tech support, 3 machines this end and all sorts of other stuff.)

Eventually I think we managed to reprogram it, but both the CDAQ , AND MAX needed updates and the updates needed to be applied in a specific order, then the MAX database needed to be wiped.

Hope this helps give you some ideas and eventually a solution.

I've seen similar behavior before on certain corporate IT images. It's definitely something in the RIO driver, if you'd like to try re-installing that. Also, what OS are you on?

OS is Windows 7 64 bit

i have reinstalled the LabVIEW, Real Time, FPGA and the driver several times.

Maybe the C-Modul has an error

Hi simon911,

Can you provide me the screenshot of the LabVIEW Project Explorer (.lvproj) after you add the cRIO to the LabVIEW project file? Are you using Scan Interface mode? 

There are few things which you can try out:

1. Place the NI 9403 to another slots (slots 4 and 5)
2. Try the module in another cRIO chassis 
3. Have you try to detect the C series module in both Scan Interface and FPGA modes? 
4. Try using another NI 9403 (if you have any). Sometimes, a missing NI 9403 in both MAX and LabVIEW might mean that it might be damaged. If damaged, contact your NI representatives
5. Try using a cDAQ to see if it is detected.

Attached are the screenshots of the project explorer (FPGA-Mode and Scan Interface).

1. I tried 4 different slots

2. I don't have aother cRIO

4.I orderd a Technical Sales Loaner. It should be here by tommorrow.

        The C-Moduls don't show up in MAX, only at a LabVIEW-Project

5. I don't have a cDAQ

Hi simon911,

Since you have uninstalled and reinstall the NI software and it does not work plus switching slots as well. It seems that from the screenshot you provided, you can detect the chassis and the controller but not the module. Do you have other NI C series modules to test on?

As for now, I might suspect that you may have a faulty NI 9403.

 Therefore I ordered another NI9403 as Technical Sales Loaner. I think it'll arive tomorrow.
