View LVRT-Hosted Remote Front Panel from Windows CE Internet Explorer?

Hello,

We are evaluating display options for a real-time target.

Using a Remote Front Panel appears to be the best/cheapest option. Many lower cost industrial display options run Windows CE by default... I want to find out if that's a problem before purchasing.

Will it be possible to install the run-time engine in Windows CE such that a Remote Front Panel may be viewed using Internet Explorer (or another browser) on Windows CE?

Looked at Run-Time Engine download page:
LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 2012 SP1
http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/3710/lang/en
Supported OS list: Windows 8; Windows 7; Windows Vista; Windows XP (SP3) 32-bit; Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit; Windows Server 2003 R2 32-bit

That's not it. Or maybe can be force-fit into Windows CE?

Then looked from the Remote Front Panel side...

No mention of Windows CE. Out of luck?

Thanks,

There are some configurations of Windows CE that do not work with certain versions of LabVIEW. Because of that, it is not an officially supported OS. However, several of our customers deploy LabVIEW applications to Windows CE (typically for touch panel applications) and it seems to work fairly well. I am not sure if Remote Front Panels would work. Most people are migrating towards Windows 7 Embedded or similar OSes because more of the functionality is supported.

Jeremy, thanks.

Also found this:
LabVIEW 2012 Touch Panel Module Readme

"The last version of the Touch Panel Module that will include support for Touch Panel devices running Windows CE is the Touch Panel Module 2012."

Never truly figured out if it's actually possible to view a remote panel from a WinCE target, but we may save a lot of time just getting an XPe/WES 7 panel PC.

Thanks for sharing that document, Dan. I think that you're smart to skip WinCE and go straight on to using something that is more supported like XPe, Win7e, etc.

Good luck on your project! Thanks for using NI Forums.
