Welcome to the New NI Discussion Forums!

Al,

You get 5 thumbs up for your post.. (couldn't make it 10... sorry.. )

*** I have to correct my previous post... there is a l;ocal "reply" button... -sorry- 😞

I agree with your post. It's sad to see the Eunthusiasts dissappear. 😞
What I also miss is how many people actually rated the reply.

What I find strange is that people can also rate the question. This is interesting...
I do not know how people will react to a poorly rated question. It may shy them away from asking further help in the future.

I especially like your items 5, 7 & 8.

QUOTE:
5. In the old forums, the messages where tagged "Answered by Enthusiast" and/or "High rating".
7. I miss the list of top contributors (formerly known as Enthusiasts).
8. I liked the old organization with two sections to show the newest answered questions separate from the newest unanswered questions.

Nevertheless, the look of this forum is good and a step in the right direction.

Al,

I couldn't have said it better myself. You get 5 stars. Like you I often follow a thread that I don't subscribe to. I also miss the overview page which separated out the latest updated answered questions and the latest unanswered questions. The new deliniation of forum participants is also not clear. What exactly is a "Proven Member" and how is this different from a "Proven Active Member"? I think that this is a way to, appropriately, separate the group which used to be referred to as Enthusiasts into subgroups, but a better description of the subgroups would be useful.

The new forums display all messages in the flat order that you see. The options available are to sort them by threading/ascending/descending or to automatically jump to new posts in the threads. All of these are configurable in your profile.

We might have the ability to provide more viewing options in the future, but this is the feature set available today. Stay tuned...

Thanks!

1 - I will see if there is a better way around this, but the best one available that I know of now is to attach code snippets in a text file.

2 - It is a known issue with the system that if you reload the page (by previewing the post or receiving an error message) before submitting it, the attachment is lost.

3 - The new system doesn't automatically recognize URLs and generate hyperlinks. To make the text link, you need to add the HTML tags.

4 - We have requested the feature of giving the users the option to sort the threads in the board by most recent activity or by start date. It should be available in the community soon.

5 - From the board view, the ratings column only populates when the question has been rated. The system doesn't automatically average all of the ratings on the thread and display that average. This is something we can consider as a new feature moving forward. From the board view you can see who posted most recently to the thread. The users who have reached the highest level in the community have bolded names so they will stand out in that column.

6 - I will see if this is possible. Since the new community has the option to rate any message rather than just answers, it will be hard to trend the number of ratings to see if it is declining because the number of opportunities is much higher. Because the new community offers personalization options, we might actually see more users logging in earlier in their visit.

7 - The forum tool doesn't support this out of the box, but we will see what we can do to get it back. I agree completely that the friendly competition and recognition is great for the community.

8 - The Answered/Unanswered filters available at the top of the board view will allow you to see the posts separated the way you could in the old system.

9 - The Advanced Search actually has the option to limit the results by the user who posted them, so I believe this is possible. Sample Search

10 - Thank you so much for all of your valuable feedback! We look forward to growing together in this new community!

Thanks!

TIP - To see how many people have rated a particular reply, just hover over the stars and you will see how many times it has been rated and the decimal average.

Rating questions is new to this community and, as always, we hope that our members are respectful and supportive of one another rather than discouraging.

I think I answered the rest of your concerns in my reply to Al S.

Thanks for the feedback and support!

Let me try to address your questions about the new ranking system. One of the features we really liked about this new tool was the flexibility that we have in the ranking system. We really like that users can earn recognition faster than was possible before and that there are multiple steps that can be earned along the way.

We chose three metrics that we felt would help members earn the recognition they deserve for their participation in the community. We set three levels for each of the metrics and have room to add higher levels when they become necessary. If you do the math, that makes 27 possible user ranks -- three metrics and three levels per metric. This is a significant change from the 2 ranks we used to have!

The first metric is ratings. The three levels are unnamed, Trusted, and Proven.

The second metric is posts. The three levels are unnamed, Active and Enthusiastic.

The third metric is logins. The three levels are Member, Regular, and Veteran.

So, to answer your question...
A Proven Member is a user who has received very high ratings on their posts in the community.
A Proven Active Member is a user who has received very high ratings on their posts in the community AND they have posted a considerable number of times.

I hope that helps clear things up.

Thanks!

Hello Molly:

Are there any plans on having the "Topics" and "Polls" back again?
I think it is important about what other people say about NI products.

"That does not compute!"

Hi Molly,

I tried that float thing and everything made sense until I got to an answer that had four stars showing.

The tip strip said one rating with an average of 3.7.

Is this an artifact on converting the 4-star system to a 5-star?
