What type of AVI files will IMAQ routines open/read?

It's been recommended that to be able to use images from DV firewire cameras with IMAQ the way to do it is to capture an AVI file and then use the open/read AVI Vis to process the frames. When I capture a full DV file using Pinnacle studio, this captures to a type 2 AVI using the dvsd codec. Open AVI exits with an error when trying to open these files. Does it need to be a type 1 AVI or use a particular codec to be readable by IMAQ?

Hi Russ,

The only caveat on the avi read functions is that the file extension should be .avi

I'm still looking into it but it would be helpful if you could tell me what functions you are trying to use and what error codes you are seeing.

Thanx

Hi,

I have now successfully read both type 1 and type 2 AVI files on another installation. I think there must be some corruption of the imaq installation on the original machine which I will look at seperately. The only error I see now is when trying to read an AVI which uses a Divx codec which doesn't surprise me. Error is an exception occurred...may have corrupted memory etc stopped at node 0x218 of IMAQ AVI Open.

Hey Russ,

Yeah DivX errors don't suprise me either.
Glad you got it all working.
