Take a look at Subversion and e.g. Tortoise, you can have it installed on your own computer and check in updates so you can back up as needed. If you make some decent comments when checking in you'll get a nice development history also.

Yeah, we all go through that.  Anyways, I will second the Tortoise SVN unless your company has something already set up that you can use.  Also keep in mind that it is open source.  Some companies have rules against that.
