Hi David,

I know that this is not of any help to you, but I've got a Logitech C920 camera and I can't even get it to show up in MAX. Did you have to do anything in particular to get it to show up?I'm using version 14.5.0f0 of MAX. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mark

The Blessing and the Curse of Remote Desktop -- I've got a C920 camera plugged into my PC at work (I'm home getting some repairs done).  So I remote in, open MAX, find the camera, click "Snap", and see --- a black screen (the lights are turned off in my office, duh ...).

When I get in to work and get the lights turned on, I'll check to see if this has been solved.  If not, I'll try (and I'm pretty sure I'll succeed) to post code that demonstrates taking a picture.  It's only a little more work to take a video ...

Hey Mark,

Curious. Puzzling. I don't recall having to do anything special to get it to show up in MAX; I don't have the camera anymore so I can't confirm. Maybe check to see if you have the IMAQ software installed on the myRIO?

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Cordially,

David

Hi David,

Thanks for your reply. I'm not actually using a myRIO (I don't have one), my camera is connected directly to a USB port on my PC. Perhaps that's the reason for my problem - what do you reckon? I have never used a myRIO, so I don't know anything about it.

Thanks

Mark

OK, now my lights are on (in more ways than one!).  I opened MAX, noted that my Logitech C920 is called "cam3" by MAX, and made sure that a Snap worked.  I then laid down a few IMAQdx functions, shown below:

IMAQdx Snap.png

The first was Open Camera, to which I wired a Constant to the Session In input, then chose "cam3" from the Drop-down choices.  Next came Start Acquisition, Snap, and Stop Acquisition.  Snap needs an Image input which I create with the IMAQ Create function, naming it Snap and saying that it is 32-bit RGB.  On my Front Panel, I place an IMAQ Image Indicator, to which I wire the Snap Image Out.

When I run this, a picture appears of the top of my head (fortunately my whole face isn't visible, preventing my computer from crashing).

If you need to make videos, there are a few more hoops through which to jump, but it is largely a similar process.

Hello Green,

Do you have th Vision acquisition software installed on your computer?

Are you able to see the camera in the windows device manager? or use it in any program?

Hi Randy,

Thanks for your reply. The answer to all your questions is yes. This is why I'm so confused.

Thanks
