access vi's in a second application instance

help pleeeezzzz,
 

i'm trying to trying to retrieve the reference to a locked up modal vi so i can programmatically kill it without shutting down LabVIEW.

 

 There should be a way using vi server to get the vi references running in another application instance on the same machine but i haven't found out how yet.

 

i'll attach what i've got so far...  it only returns the vi refnums from it's own app instance.

 Thanks GovBob,

 

  The "private VI Server properties" he mentions piques the curiosity enough to be annoying, but that post did lead me to tst's solution here, and nick's here.

 

And I coulda swore i'd seen all his nuggets... but i certainly missed that one!  :smileymad:
