I was trying to set up communication between S7-400 and a PC that has NI OPC server license. The idea is to fetch data from the PLC over ethernet to perfom calculations in the PC and have a Laview HMI.

The above link provides information from the NI OPC perspective. As we can see, it just needs the communication port number, rack number, CPU slot number and the PLC network address mainly. However, I am sure that S7-400 has to be configured first to allow any PC to communicate with it ( e.g, In PCS7, setting a PC on the PLC network, assigning an IP, and providing communication rights, so on..)
Can anyone provide quick info on how to configure S7-400 or direct me to the proper documentation?
Although, this question is mainly from Siemens guys, I am looking for the expects in this forum who tried and were successful interfacing NI OPC with S7-400. Any help will be greatly appreciated
