install previous version

I recently had a computer crash and had to install all my software. I installed LV2009 but now find I need to also have 8.6.1 available. I tried installing but get the message "...will not install, newer version is installed". Unfortuntely when I try to use the necessary drivers (niDMM, niDAQmx etc. ) I get the message "cannot use newer version".

Is there any way to have two completely independant versions of Labview installed and functional on the same PC?

Re: install previous version

That's odd.

I have never run across this type of behavior when installing previous LV Versions and I do so frequently. What OS and Development system (Student, base, full or Pro) are you using?

Are you installing from DVD's or did you accidentally download just the 8.6.1 RTE?

Re: install previous version

Jeff,

Thanks for getting back so soon. I am using XP SP3 (just upgraded as well) and Labview Professional version loaded from DVD's for both versions.

Re: install previous version

When installing multiple versions it is always best to install the earliest version first, then move up the version numbers. The installers for LabVIEW are quite complicated, having many packages. Thus, it is quite possible that it would try to install an older version of a component, and the installer won't allow this. Thus, my suggestion is to uninstall LV 2009, then install 8.6, and then reinstall 2009.

Re: install previous version

I'm going to ditto S_FC for two reasons.

First- While it is possible to install in any order some components of a PDS do act funny.  Imagine my chargrin when I launch the app builder from 2009 and it pulled up the app builder from my most reciently installed version 7.1.   Failing this approach you will need to do a custom install and really KNOW what components you want and which components you should not install.

Re: install previous version

Of course that makes perfect sense logically, but it means a lot time spent installing everything again.

That will be the  next step though.

Thanks gentlemen for the help.

Re: install previous version

And if you need 8.2, repeat the process again. You may consider using another PC or a virtual PC to install it. If you are having trouble with the daqmx drivers, it will update them when you reload the daq for 2009 anyway.
