Hello,
This post is directed to someone in support at NI, of course anyone with the answer would be welcomed. I am currently using LV 8.6 SE . I want to upgrade to LV 2010 SE mostly so I can view the VI's on this forum. My question is should I wait for LV 2011 SE , is there even going to be a LV 2011 SE if so would the price be about the same as 2010 SE.
Thanks
Alan

Nobody has a crystal ball, but unless NI goes out of business, there will probably a new SE every year. 🙂
We cannot predict the pricing structure of future products.
If you don't want the book and toolkits, the 2010 SE price is now the same as a couple of happy meals, so the financial barrier is quite low. I would say you should just buy it. 🙂
Of course if we are lucky, there will be a low to no cost community edition in a couple of years.... 😄 To help make it happen, please vote for it!

Im in, how do I vote for it? And you are correct about the "hobby" use of LabVIEW. I am laid off and right now I am using LV8.6SE connected to a USB 6008 DAQ , A0, sending an analog voltage out to an ATMEL microcontroller ADC pin. The ADC result is fed to a register of the PWM engine in the ATMEL , that going to an H BRIDGE IC (754410) connected to a DC motor. The user can can control the speed and direction of the motor from the FP of the LabVIEW VI. The micro is programmed in the FREE version of "CodeVisionAVR C". When I say "right now" I mean I am sitting here doing this now!
If it were not for the Student Edition of LV and the free "limited edition" C compiler for the micro, a laid off person could not afford to keep up in this manner.
Thanks for letting me rant,
Alan

You give kudos by clicking the golden button in the upper left corner of the idea. That's a vote!
You are not alone. At the moment, this idea is the already highly rated with 318 votes. 😄

Ok, I voted. I would still like to here from NI if they have price and availability for 2011 SE as my motivation for the upgrade is so I can look at VI's posted here, pretty soon the students willl be using 2011 and I won't be able to run the VI's again.

Thanks!
I've never heard a company giving prices for future products and I don't think they would even know. Can you predict the state of the economy a year from now?
(You can download and install the 2010 version and run it in evaluation mode for a limited time if you want.)

Well,
2011 is in 6 weeks! Not a year from now. If the product is slated to come out Jan 1st it would be VERY stupid of me not to wait. And IF the product was being released in 6 weeks they darn better have a price in mind. I don't know the pricing history of student editions but you being an NI Knight probably do? And I don't know if they release 2011 at the end of 2010 or the middle of 2011 or the beginning of 2011 or not until 2012. If I did know I wouldn't have started this post in the first place.
Thanks!
Alan

New versions of LabVIEW are released in August coincident with NI Week.
LabVIEW 2010 just came out. You won't see anything new before August 2011, except possible patches or service packs.

The student edition was priced quite consistently in the high 2 digits, but for 2010 major adjustments were made and there are now three versions available. There was also a major overhaul in the academic pricing, with the introduction of various attractive "suites". I am sure NI is watching sales and customer feedback and will further adjust to the academic market if needed.
All I can currently see that (with respect to academic products), we are in turbulent times and we cannot predict from past history what will happen in the future.

I just purchased usb 6008 which is package with NI LabVIEW 2010, When I tried to do example related to the DAQ Assistant from Measurement I/O, only NI Scan engine and NI Spy are available.
When I open LabVIEW 2009, the function DAQ Assistant is available.
I have checked using MAX, the USB 6008 can be configured and tested successfully.
How to solve this problem????
