palettes - best way to link to an llb of folders of custom VIs - LV8

For my LabVIEW 8 palette set, I would like to add a custom .lib or .llb consisting of folders of VIs to the user.lib folder so that the default functions palette view allows me to see an icon representing the .lib and then allows me to choose from the folders of VIs within the .lib.  Can someone provide exact steps on how to do this in LabVIEW 8 as just placing the .lib file in the user.lib folder does not seem to do it.

Thanks,

Don

Hi Don,

To customize your tools/functions palettes, go to Tools >> Advanced >> Edit Palette Views

Be carefull with what you do there !

There are different way of adding VIs, llb of VIs or menus ; to be fairly honest I don't really master these methods... maybe the easiest is to add menus and llb ; there is another way using *.mnu files but I don't know how it works.

Hope you'll get through 😉 !

I have tried this but am not clear what to do when I get to the subsequent pop-up window.  Even the 'Help' on this window does not explicitly talk about how to add your own folders of VIs.  I want to be very careful what I do here so I am looking for explicit instructions.

Hi Don,

After you go to Tools>>Advanced>>Edit Palette Set you should see an "Edit Controls and Functions Palette Set" and the Controls and Functions palettes.  You can then right-click on the Functions palette and go to Insert>>Subpalette.  Then you will be able to select to link this new subpalette to an LLB (or several other options).

Hope this helps.  Let me know if you have further questions.

Thank you.  I attempted an action to link to a directory which in some cases has folders containing LLBs and in other cases folders containing sub-folders with VIs.  Linked up fine in the former case but not in the latter so I will likely have to link to the latter separately using the other options available up right-clicking on the fxs palette.

Sincerely,

Don
