power user

I installed LV6.1 using admin login and now when I switch back to power user and try to run LV6.1 it tries to install LV and asked for the location of CD. even though I inserted the CD but it keeps on installing it. once twice and it never stops. it install and then again do the same thing. it's like it's in a never ending while loop.
if I keep cancelling it then after 6 or 7 clicks I am able to get rid of installation thing and after that the program runs. but it's an irritating way !!!!

any help will be greatly appreciated

In anticipation of reply

I've had this happen to me a couple times. The way I've solved it is to uninstall the Runtime engine then reinstall it while logged in as the Power User. If the Power User doesn't have sufficient rights to install programs, a dialog should open where you can enter the Admins name and password to get around the Must have Admin Rights feature.

The main thing to remember here the Admin account is for administering the PC and shouldn't really be used for anything else. It causes problems like this occasionally.

Hi you both,

for my interest which OS versions show this behaviour?

I have installed LV from version 3.0 to LV 7.0 under Win 3.11 to Win XP on several machines runing standalone or in a domain (doing LV since 1994). I have seen under 2000 access right problems when installing as administrator and using as standard user. But I never had the case asking me for installing it again.

I've run LabVIEW 6, 6.1 and 7 on Win 98, NT, 2K and XP.

As far as I can remember, the only combination where I've seen it occur is LabVIEW 6.0.2 on Win2K and 98. In all cases when it happens, I always install under my user ID which has admin privileges (at least on the 2K machine), so Im not sure what causes it. Since 98 doesnt have the different levels of user privileges, I guess thats probably not what is causing this particular problem. I didnt think of that last night.

The install dialog that opens is looking for the runtime engine installer, so thats what lead me to try uninstalling that to fix the problem.

Hi Ed,

I recently have installed LV 6.0.2 on a ASUS laptop with Win2000 SP3 or SP4. I did it with the local administrator account and use it with a local user account. I didn't got any problems with it.

I've never figured out what causes it. It never happens right after I install everything, it's always run fine for a while, then it starts acting up. It doesn't do this on every install I do. It's only happend 3 or 4 times that I can remember. Some registry entry is probably getting messed up and causing it.
