printing hp problem

I'm am having a problem printing to a HP P1006 Laserjet printer on a USB port on my computer. I'm using Labview 8.2 professional. The HP driver is HP1006k.dll. I'm using the "Easy Text Report.vi". This printer is set as my default printer. I can print from notepad and other Windows apps. The problem I'm having is when I power down the printer and turn it back on, I cannot print from Labview applications. The only way I can print is by printing a test page in "printer properties" or to print from word or notepad.  Same thing occurs on other hp printers but not Brother printers. Any ideas would be helpful.

Strange. What do you mean by doesn't work? It simply doesn't print? Are there any error messages? Are you sure that Windows sees the printer?

Have you tried using the Print Report VI? Does that work?

It simply will not print. Yes, Windows XP Pro sees the printer and I can print with it with notepad, wordpad, and office. I watch Labview send a Low Level Document into the HP Laserjet P1006 Document Name window, but it will not print it just dissappears. No error in Labview, No error in the HP print window.?????? I find this on other models of HP also. On a Brother printer this doesn't occur.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

Can you try changing your print margins and see if that causes any different behavior? I know this isn't ideal, but one workaround would be to install a pdf printer (such as pdfForge) and print to pdf and then print the pdf from Adobe Acrobat. Additionally, you may also want to contact HP to see if they can shed any light on this.

I've tried that, no change. No help from HP. Thanks for thoughts. I'll keep at it.

Another thing to report on. I find if I gointo VI properties and "Automatically print front panel every time VI completes execution" it will initiate the printer. It will print the front panel first and then print my data. What is the difference between the 2 printer calls? The one I'm having problems with is NIReports.reports. What is the call for the front panel objects?

Thanks

If you print from any other method in LabVIEW (File»Print or Print Report VI) do you have the same problem? Or is it just the Easy Text Report VI?

What version of Report Generation Toolkit do you have installed?

I have the tool kit that came with 8.2 Professional. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, No change. I have printing problems with every print widget that uses the "Print Report.VI" in it. When I see the data going into the spool, I see "N/A" for Pages, when I print from "Automatically print front panel every time VI completes execution" I see "1" for Pages. It seems something is occurring NIReports.Report that HP doesn't like or something HP has changed in there drivers. I never had this problem when I was using 7.0 Express. Any Ideas would help.

It is a strange behavior that I have not seen before and would be difficult to test without your printer. Again I ask, though, does File»Print work? So far you've confirmed the reports NIR part and that you can change the automatic printing, but not that specifically.

Which version of Windows are you using?

Is this the most up to date version of the driver from HP?

It appears there is an existing CAR from another customer with regards to this specific issue. It is CAR 119294, reported on Windows XP. I will add your details to this CAR.

I've tried Windows XP and Windows Vista. I see the problem on both operating systems. I cannot print from the File»Print option. Yes this is the most up to date driver that I can find from HP. I'm at a loss.

Thanks for the time.
