Did you mean:

problem with serial port reading!!

This is gobbledygook . If you have started on the job rewriting the system for VISA. You would have been finished now. Instead you are goofing around trying to implement some programming techniques left by labview long time ago. And you will get more trouble if try to build an application. Sorry but I leave this discussion.

Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted
(Sorry no Labview "brag list" so far)

How can you say it is gobbledygook. He's now getting an error from the VISA functions. I have no explanation for the error but it is a start. You youself said the functions now use VISA. Now we know what the error is.

Dont worry Dennis!.

This application I did two year ago, and now I would want to improve the efficiency with the option com. I thought the bug was very simple to fit, but well. I will re-write the application with VISA.

Regards.

If you are getting a system error with the existing program and the existing program is using VISA under the hood, a rewrite may not do any good. Have you tried as I suggested and used one of the shipping examples? If you get the system error with that, you might try installing a newer version of NI-vISA.

Dennis,

I tried the 'Basic Serial Read and Write example' and modify a bit the simple vi I attached before. It works well. I believe I dont need newest version visa, right now I am using visa3.3full.exe
