unable to remove 488.2 on vista

I installed NI 488.2 ver 2.4 today on a Vista/SP1 machine and noticed a number of library errors during the process.

I located version 2.5 in the downloaded device driver set so I went to remove the version 2.4. Upon trying to un-install it to install the proper ver 2.5, the uninstall process locks up about 4/5 of the way throught the 'installation verification' portion of the removal process.

Attempting to simply install over it with 2.5, results in a lockup when the 488.2 software is being installed.

Any ideas on a tool or what i need to take out of the registry to fix this. The 488.2 does show up in the control panel/software under NI software as installed.

Thanks.

You need to be careful to check if the OS is compatible with the driver that you are trying to install. You will need to follow the steps in the following KB article:

AdnanZ,

Thanks for the info.

Unfortunately, the utility detects the presence of the 488.2 installation and requires an un-install first.

Performing 'uninstall' yields a long wait and then a message 'Error in custom action. The library c:\windows\43B5AA64B86D427687969144791EE31D.TMP\WiseCustomCalla1.7EEDDDA1_408B_11D3_9AE0_006097741583.dll is invalid or could not be found'.

Looks like a catch-22.  I'm currently considering re-imaging the drive and re-installing the labview environment. If I knew what to do manually to un-install the software from the system, that would help.

Let me know if you have any other ideas.. otherwise, time to reinstall.

Thanks,

Michael

It does sound like a catch 22, where the most complete solution would be to re-install Windows.

As a last resort, before reimaging your machine, you could try and use this utility. It sounds like you are able to run the installer, so this may not be a solution. Just thought I would give you this option before going through the fun* reimaging process.

No, don't use MSIBlast on Vista. The vista cleanup tool in the document that I have linked is the right utility to be used. At this point, I would just ask you to reimage; it will save you time 🙂
