uninstallation of labview

I want to upgrade my LV to 8.5 from 7.0 for using a special function.
During uninstalling, how does the uninstaller treat an user program installed in the NI-user folder(user.lib)?
Actually, I installed some 3rd party freeware toolkit on LV folder.
Are there anything of which I have to take care(backup) in upgrading?

Hi labmaster,

as far as i know the uninstall routine deletes only files which are installed by this software part (LV70), but I think you have to reinstall your 3rd party tools for the new version.

You also don't have to uninstall an older version of LabVIEW when upgrading. Leave it where it is. In general, the only issues you have to worry about are NI Toolkits and hardware drivers. All of your old hardware drivers (DAQ, GPIB, VISA) will be upgraded if you select to install them with the new version of LabVIEW.

There is no reason to uninstall LabVIEW 7.0. You should actually keep it until you are sure that everything works.

Having 7.0 is also useful if you need to open e.g. a VI that is still in version 5.1. LabVIEW 8.5 will not be able to open it so you first need to open and save it in 7.0. I strongly suggest to use the default locations for each install. This way things are all nicely in their place (see image).

Many of us have several LabVIEW versions installed. An uninstaller will leave your user.lib in place so you should make a new copy in the 8.5 hierarchy and masscompile it to the new version there.
